Bekämpfung der Blutlaus (Eriosoma lanigerum Hausm.) in ökologischen Obstanlagen durch Etablierung von Ohrwürmern (Forficula auricularia L.) und Bewertung unterstützender Bekämpfungsverfahren Organic Eprints
Toups, Ina; Zimmer, Jürgen; Trautmann, Martin; Weinmann, Elke; Beer, Margarita; Buchleither, Sascha; Herz, Annette; Koch, Ute.

Biological control of the cherry fruit fly, Rhagoletis cerasi L. (Diptera, Tephritidae) by use of entomopathogenic nematodes: first experiences towards practical implementation. Organic Eprints
Herz, Annette; Köppler, Kirsten; Vogt, Heidrun; Elias, Ellen; Peters, Arne; Katz, Peter.
The use of entomopathogenic nematodes (EPN) is a promising approach to control the cherry fruit fly, Rhagoletis cerasi L.. We already demonstrated the high potential of EPN to infect larvae after leaving the cherry for pupation in the soil in laboratory and field experiments. For practice, an application technique is needed, that is both, grower- and EPN friendly. We tested a tractor mounted spray boom for treatment under the canopy area. The achieved rate of EPN in the soil met the expectations. The activity of EPN in soil samples was high after application, but dropped to 60% of the initial activity within one week. Exact forecasting of larval drop from cherries is another major challenge. To obtain basic data, we recorded the phenology of...

Das Projekt EcoOrchard: Förderung der funktionellen Agro- Biodiversität im Ökologischen Obstbau Organic Eprints
Matray, Silvia; Herz, Annette; Pfiffner, Lukas; Sigsgaard, Lene.
Research institutes and universities of nine European countries are involved in the research project EcoOrchard to develop appropriate strategies to promote functional agro-biodiversity in organic pome fruit production. Therefore field trials have been laid out at different sites in seven member states in 2015, where flower strips were sown into the inter-rows of the orchards. Natural antagonists like Syrphidae, Coccinelidae and parasitoids of codling moth are supposed to be promoted with these additional floral ressources. Besides faunal and floristic studies, practical methods and indicators have been worked out to monitor functional biodiversity.

Organic fruit growers often suffer economic losses due to insect damages. The available natural pest control products are not always effective; and most important: many organic fruit growers would prefer not to use any pesticide at all. EcoOrchard, a CORE Organic Plus project (2015-18) aims to collect existing knowledge and generate new knowledge in order to use Functional AgroBiodiversity (FAB) successfully in orchards. This includes experimental trials in seven countries on the potential of inter-row flower strips for control of key pests and natural enemy augmentation, the establishment of the EBIO-Network as a European-wide network of stakeholders for collecting, sharing and improving scientific and practical knowledge and experience in FAB...

Fruit growers often suffer economic losses due to insect damages. The available natural pest control products are not always effective; and for organic fruit growers options for direct control are relatively few. EcoOrchard, a CORE Organic Plus project (2015-18) tracked EU farmers knowledge of Functional AgroBiodiversity (FAB) and generated new knowledge in order to successfully use FAB in orchards by a joint field experiment across seven countries of perennial flower strips to assess impact on natural enemies, codling moths and yield. The project also established the BIONetwork as a European-wide network of stakeholders for collecting, sharing and improving scientific and practical knowledge and experience in FAB management, and developed simple FAB...

Heimische Drosophila Parasitoide für die natürliche Regulierung der Kirschessigfliege, Drosophila suzukii M., einem invasiven Schaderreger im ökologischen Obstanbau Organic Eprints
Englert, C; Herz, Annette.
The invasive fruit pest Drosophila suzukii from Asia currently spreads in Germany without being regulated by adapted specific natural enemies. Due to its polyphagous nature, D. suzukii causes high risk in various soft fruit crops, especially since weather and wild host plants provide suitable conditions for population outbreaks. Ongoing research aims to identify native parasitoids of Drosophilidae in Germany and tries to assess their ability for natural control as well as their suitability for being used as biological control agents in pest management of D. suzukii.

Innovative design and management to boost functional biodiversity of organic orchards : the ECOORCHARD project Organic Eprints
Warlop, Francois; Penvern, Servane; Weibel, Franco; Herz, Annette; Porcel, Mario; Tchamitchian, Marc; Sigsgaard, Lene.
Orchards are perennial cultures, and, especially in organic fruit production it is essential to design and manage orchards in a way which favours beneficials such as insect predators and parasitoids over pests and diseases. As landscape-dominating crops their management affects overall biodiversity in the agricultural landscape. Increasing plant biodiversity and habitats in such a way that beneficials are favoured is called Functional Agro-Biodiversity (FAB). The value of FAB for reducing pesticide use in fruit production is generally acknowledged, and many growers try to increase it. However, they lack situation-specific information about how to drive and assess biodiversity to optimize FAB. ECOORCHARD is therefore combining several approaches: (i)...

Innovative Maßnahmen zur Förderung der funktionellen Biodiversität im ökologischen Kernobstanbau Organic Eprints
Herz, Annette; Matray, Silvia.
